Suggestions for Ribbon Cables and Connectors

Can you point me the right direction for a good source of ribbon cables & connectors?

I've built my ArduiNIX and IN-17 Display Boards all with angle pin headers, forgetting that I needed to plan for cables.  The salvage stuff I have in my junk box is only 17 pins wide, and my board headers are 20 pins, so.....

And for the anode pin headers I only need 4 pins wide....

I'd like to have 6 to 12 inches between my Arduino/ArduiNIX and the Display Board so I can burry the "brains" deeper in my final clocks.

What I ususally use is a computer harddrive ribboncable.  I know it's more pins than you need but it is 20 pins wide and it does usually have a short section on one end.

IDE ribbon cable I have stacks of, so that is what I use.

Hi,

I used IDE cables for a prototype, but to separate the wires and solder them to the nixie socket pins is a bit messy.

I found those cables on eBay and ordered a set to check how they would fit.

I ordered a set of those dupont connectors, they work great for a few connections but they don't do very well fitting 20 or so connections side by side on the cathode pins. You could probably make it work by shaving a little of the sides of them, but it still might be tight.

I ended up using a very heavily modified IDE cable for my clock.

Ah, I'm using IN-8, so the spacing of the pins is just right. Sorry about that.

I have been using the standard IDE cable from a computer, and only using the top or bottom row of 20 pins.  It works fine, and is readily available.

I don't know of any supplier of only 20 pin wide ribbon cable.

I tried IDE cable at first. It worked but was hard to manage. For my final I ripped all the IDE out and used the pull-apart jumpers from Adafruit. Easy ribbon cable in any width you need.
