Title: Suggestions for Ribbon Cables and Connectors Post by: k9zw on January 31, 2010, 01:43:38 PM Can you point me the right direction for a good source of ribbon cables & connectors?
I've built my ArduiNIX and IN-17 Display Boards all with angle pin headers, forgetting that I needed to plan for cables. The salvage stuff I have in my junk box is only 17 pins wide, and my board headers are 20 pins, so..... And for the anode pin headers I only need 4 pins wide.... I'd like to have 6 to 12 inches between my Arduino/ArduiNIX and the Display Board so I can burry the "brains" deeper in my final clocks. 73 Steve K9ZW Title: Re: Suggestions for Ribbon Cables and Connectors Post by: nonentity on January 31, 2010, 02:42:21 PM Can you point me the right direction for a good source of ribbon cables & connectors? I know it's more pins than you need but it is 20 pins wide and it does usually have a short section on one end. IDE ribbon cable I have stacks of, so that is what I use. I used IDE cables for a prototype, but to separate the wires and solder them to the nixie socket pins is a bit messy. I found those cables on eBay and ordered a set to check how they would fit. http://cgi.ebay.com/1007-AWG22-Dupont-100mm-20pcs-wire-TPK-pin-header_W0QQitemZ250571610265QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3a573b5899#ht_3163wt_1167 (http://cgi.ebay.com/1007-AWG22-Dupont-100mm-20pcs-wire-TPK-pin-header_W0QQitemZ250571610265QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3a573b5899#ht_3163wt_1167) Seeedstudio also has them, and in different sizes http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/1-pin-dualfemale-jumper-wire-100mm-50pcs-pack-p-260.html?cPath=34 (http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/1-pin-dualfemale-jumper-wire-100mm-50pcs-pack-p-260.html?cPath=34) Have fun! You could probably make it work by shaving a little of the sides of them, but it still might be tight.
I ended up using a very heavily modified IDE cable for my clock. Title: Re: Suggestions for Ribbon Cables and Connectors Post by: pcairic on March 09, 2010, 03:14:15 PM Ah, I'm using IN-8, so the spacing of the pins is just right. Sorry about that.
Title: Re: Suggestions for Ribbon Cables and Connectors Post by: burke on July 22, 2010, 10:08:29 PM I'd also like to know the IDE cable people use. Trying to find a 20 pin single row is proving a little difficult for me. On my test board I soldered connections, but I dont want to go through that again.

I have been using the standard IDE cable from a computer, and only using the top or bottom row of 20 pins. It works fine, and is readily available. I don't know of any supplier of only 20 pin wide ribbon cable. Title: Re: Suggestions for Ribbon Cables and Connectors Post by: MartinTSW on December 21, 2011, 04:49:25 PM Try these:

It worked but was hard to manage. For my final I ripped all the IDE out and used the pull-apart jumpers from Adafruit. Easy ribbon cable in any width you need.
